Fight Week: Steele vs. Limbaugh
My, my. Talk radio GOP mouthpiece Rush Limbaugh is upset that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele had smacked him down on CNN’s “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” show last week.
On Hughley’s show, Steele said that he, not Rush Limbaugh, was the de facto leader of the GOP. To add insult to injury, Steele called Limbaugh an "entertainer" whose comments are "ugly."
"Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh's whole thing is entertainment," Steele said. "Yes, it is incendiary. Yes, it is ugly."
First, let me state that I’m no fan of Steele’s views, but I will give him props for standing up against this hateful blowhard.
Limbaugh shot back Monday by insinuating that Steele is supporting President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He further stated that Steele was being used by the ‘liberal media.’
"Michael Steele has been around long enough to know that the liberal media will use him by twisting what I say or what others say," he said. "He took the bait, he bit down hard on the bait, he launched an attack on me, even though the premise of what was said to him was false," said Limbaugh on his radio show.
This feud between Limbaugh and Steele will cause further damage to the GOP, depending on how long this internal GOP war continues.
Fans of Limbaugh are already denouncing Steele, some even asking him to resign for the good of the party. Others have said that Steele will ‘apologize’ to Limbaugh. Will Steele apologize? According to a Monday statement released by RNC spokesperson Alex Conant, we doubt it.
“Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats know they lose an argument with the Republican Party on substance so they are building straw men to attack and distract. The feud between radio host Rush and Rahm makes great political theater, but it is a sideshow to the important work going on in Washington. RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections. The Democrats’ problem is that the American people are growing skeptical of the massive government spending being pushed by Congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi.”
But in my humble opinion, Steele is finished.

If given the choice of defending Steele or Limbaugh, Hannity would defend Limbaugh all the way. Steele will learn the hard way who his true friends are. Limbaugh is on a crusade to bounce Steele from his RNC post. Republicans are experts on stabbing each other in the back. Steele will be force, not only to leave his post, but perhaps the party itself. He may re-register as an Independant.
