Las Alamitos Mayor Dean Grose apologizes

Las Alamitos Mayor Dean Grose sent out a news release apologizing for the ‘photo’ incident. You remember, the one with watermelons on the White House front lawn.

Here’s what he penned:

On behalf of the City of Los Alamitos, we regret the unfortunate incident that occurred earlier this week, and assure you that this is not representative of our City Council, City staff and the community as a whole. We pride ourselves in offering unwavering professional service to all community members who live, work and conduct business in Los Alamitos. We certainly do not condone perpetuating any stereotype associated with race, ethnicity, gender or religion. We welcome and encourage diversity within our community and find it unfortunate that anything would tarnish the image of our small City.

The compassionate and charitable character of our community, which includes businesses, residents, and schools, has served as an icon in Southern California for many years. The City has forged many positive relationships with several non-profit organizations, which has not only benefitted local residents, but those living throughout Orange County.

We are saddened that this incident has reflected poorly on the heart and soul of our unique community. We remain steadfast in our commitment to those we serve and will work to prove this is not symbolic of our spirit.

But the apologizing wasn’t enough to some folks. Grose had a ’surprise’ waiting for him this morning at his Las Alamitos office’s doorstep-a smashed watermelon. Shaken, the ‘good’ mayor called the police to file a report.

No word if the community is asking for Grose’s resignation, but we doubt it. It’s Orange County.

    Just another self-serving apology.

Remember, "I have sinned?" Maybe if the Mayor can get some tears flowing and tell about how moved he was by Driving Miss Daisy, he'll be able to snooker a few more latent racists from the Orange Satan County.
