The Next Page In The Stimulus Script

Often in politics a deal is in place weeks in advance and everything that follows is a dog and pony show to placate the politician's image, ego, and posturing.  That's what's going on with the stimulus.

A deal has been in place for weeks.  Pelosi is in, Reid is in, 3 Republicans are in.  They all know their final numbers, we will all know them soon enough.

The script called for the House passing the bill so Pelosi could look strong.

Next the script called for 3 Republicans to effectively position themselves as bipartisan.  This helps Snowe, Collins, and Specter in any future elections.

Now the script calls for Pelosi to complain about the Senate bill.  This way Nancy keeps her base behind her and she comes across as a fighter.

The stage after that is a conference.  The final bill will be about half way in between where the House and Senate are right now.  Most of the education spending will get put back in so Pelosi and the Democrats can crow about how they saved the education stimulus.  A couple of tax cuts get taken out but the 3 Republicans have certain tax cuts they really like so those will stay in.  So while they'll pay lip service to the spending, they will crow about how they got to preserve certain tax cuts.

Next,  all sides will claim how the bill is not perfect but how they were able to get the best deal possible.  Obama will then sign it into law in a couple of weeks.

Welcome to the dog and pony show.  Forgive me for releasing the unreleased acts ahead of time.
