News Around The Net - Jan 31 2009

Very short edition with 3 very important stories to follow up on.

Senate Republicans
will try to filibuster Obama's economic stimulus package.  Good luck.  Snowe has to follow along and she can become Senator for life if she actually turns out to be the moderate from Maine.  The goal here is to bury the right wing republicans. They will not work with Obama so Dems need to understand that they should simply pass what they need to pass.  Also, Dems must try to destroy the remaining conservatives in Congress.  Our goal in 2010 is 67 Senate seats, 290 House seats, and control of 38 state governorships.  This way, we can amend the Constitution for future generations.

Buzzflash has another expose on
Michael Steele.  He was actually paid by the GOP to run for office.  I kid you not.

It freaking matters who the justices are on the Supreme Court.  Basic concepts of law such as the
exclusionary rule. outlined in a 1961 decision called Mapp v. Ohio, are now in danger of being overturned by 5 radicals on the Supreme Court.  Opposing the exclusionary rule puts you in Nazi and Communist territory, that's how basic this is.  Yet Chief Justice Roberts says that any evidence acquired, regardless of how it was acquired (beat the crap out of you, put a gun to your head, threaten to torch your house, etc...) is now admissible in a court of law.  This is carte blanche for a fascist police state.  Of course Roberts conceals his wording more judiciously by claiming that the evidence can be admitted if "all that was involved was isolated carelessness."  Of course, Roberts can now categorize every example I just sited as "isolated carelessness."  This is sick.
