Early Impressions of Kirsten Gillibrand

Okay I got to watch her for the first time speak for about 25 minutes.  Some random thoughts.

By watching her I like her.  She seems genuine, honest, and easy to get along with.  I think she has substance and she knows her issues.  She's telegenic, attractive, and seems likable.

Here are my "concerns."

1.  For all you Caroline Kennedy bashers, how does it feel seeing Alfonse F**king D'amato standing 2 feet behind the next Senator of New York smiling and clapping?    You idiots.

2.  I'm concerned that Schumer has a puppet on a string that can't overshadow him.  The whole smearing of CK and the selection of Gillabrand has Schumer's fingerprints all over it.

3.  She joined the Blue Dogs in the House.  What kind of Senator will she be?  She needs to govern from the centerleft.

4.  Incumbency is an advantage.  If she is to be primaried in 2010, she has the inside edge.

Bottom line - Let's see how she does in 2009. If she's a great Senator, she'll earn my vote in 2010. If not, I'm shopping elsewhere.

As for Paterson, first you post at Stalinist Daily Kos and now this.  You were a shoo in for reelection 6 months ago.  Now?  You may not survive a Democratic primary if a credible candidate with financing challenges you in 2010. Ayyy.

    2nd impressions.

Didn't know she used to represent Phillip Morris.

She's the most northern member of the blue dogs.

Schumer has promised to reeducate her on guns so that her views "evolve" when he shows her NYC. What a joke. She worked in NYC for many years.

If she has a blue dog record as Senator she gets primaried real quick. If she "evolves" as Schumer wants, she'll look like a liar.

Paterson is an embarassment for this whole process and clearly deserves a primary.

The end result here is that Paterson's crap and the vicious CK hatred has now put NY's Governor seat and Senate seat in play for Republicans in 2010, something that should not be the case. This is money that should be spent elsewhere.
