Israel In Perspective - 1947, 1967, 1973

On the issue of Israel's security, I will give most benefits of the doubt to Israel.  Here's why.

Jews were killed in the Middle East long before 1947.  The Middle East has huge amounts of land.  Israel is a small piece of the pie.

In 1947 a UN resolution was reached in which Israel would be given certain land and Palestinians another part.  Keep in mind that the Palestinians do have a country, it's called Jordan, where most of the people are Palestinians.  There's also plenty of land in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and elsewhere for a couple of million "Palestinians."

The UN resolution of 1947 gave "Palestinians" more land than that which they seek today from Israel.

When this went into effect in 1948, what was the response of these "Palestinians" and their Arab neighbors?  Simple - Kill the Jews.  Israel won the war of 1948.  Note, when you win a war after someone attacks you, you have a legal right to their land.  You can choose not to take that land but it is your right.

Israel was perfectly willing to let a Palestinian state live next to it, including parts of Jerusalem.  But in 1967 again Israel was attacked.  Why?  For no reason other than to kill the Jews?  Israel won that war.

1973 - Same thing.

What happened throughout the 1980s and early 1990s?  Most jews (exception being many of the hard core Orthodox who do have Nazi genocidal mentalities) wanted peace. But what was the response?  Suicide bombers on civilians.

Sorry but when you invade someone's nation three times and you send young people into their restaurants to kill civilians with bombs, you don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

It's this history that puts things in perspective. Is Israel perfect? No.  Should they be condemned when they go over the line? Yes.  But they should also get the benefit of the doubt.  If Hamas wants to send rockets into Israel, I'd have turned Gaza into a parking lot by now.  So Israel has shown far more restraint than me.

If Palestinians want peace, act like it. You'll find a willing partner.

      Of course.

      Always been that way.

I think there is a UN refence to this but forgive me it would take time to find it. I'll try.

My point is if I am country A and I own 1000 acres and you are country B and own 1000 acres and B attacks A and A fights back and wins and takes 500 acres of B while defending itself, then A has the right to that 500 acres. Now it may be in their interest to return some or all of it.

Example - The Sinai - Israel took it over when Egypt attacked. Eventually a deal was reached.

Note also that Israel made a peace deal with Jordan and has kept it.
