Congratulations To Joseph Cao
Republican Joseph Cao defeated Democratic incumbent William Jefferson yesterday in Louisiana's 2nd congressional district. This district has a PVI of +28 for Democrats. But Cao won. And this is a good thing. I would have voted for Cao the Republican over Jefferson the "Democrat." (Almost any Dem will retake the seat in 2010.)
We here at DFQ, while liberal, do not rubber stamp all Democrats. If you are corrupt like Jefferson I'll oppose you. If you are too closely associated with Stalinist hate mongers like Markos Moulistas or other turnoffs like Al Sharpton or Medea Benjamin, I'll oppose you. If you are too closely associated with DLC anti-middle class hacks like Marshall Wittman, I'll oppose you. And when races are very local, party label means less to me and there are elected Republicans in local areas that I will support.

I agree. Corrupted Dems must be outed immediately, otherwise rightwing junkyard dogs like Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin and others will have a field day on it. Obama is careful to select his cabinet because he knows how Hannity and his kind will be watching. So far, Obama's selection includes those who served in the military, especially Vietnam veterans. It would be very difficult for Hannity to attack these military veterans without alienating is pro-military base. Hannity and Limbaugh are the most dangerous on-air talkers in the nation. They shape and distort public opinion. This is why we must keep the Dems in check, otherwise they will fall victim to these media hacks.
